About

Now based in France, The Book Barge designs and sells little libraries for private homes and public spaces. It opened in 2009 as an independent bookshop operating from a 60′ cruiser stern narrowboat on British waterways. Since 2015 it has specialised in curating and housing very small collections of books, which are made to order or assembled by whim.

The team:

Sarah Henshaw is a bookseller, journalist and former librarian. She has written for the Telegraph, the Independent and Elle Decoration and is editor of the society magazines of the Inland Waterways Association and River Thames Society. She writes about books, boats and design.

Stuart Dixon is a joiner with expertise in small space fitting and furniture. He has been building library and bookshop accessories since 2009, including projects on bicycles and boats.
